Government of Canada Launches Canada Greener Homes Initiative for Saskatoon Residences

Saskatoon,Sask,10.30.2023— The Government of Canada is excited to introduce the Canada Greener Homes Initiative, a groundbreaking program designed to make Saskatoon residences more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. This initiative, launched in collaboration with the Department of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), aims to help homeowners reduce their carbon footprint, save on energy costs, and contribute to a more sustainable future

At Energy Werx we can help Saskatoon homeowners find rebates in the home energy sector that they may be entitled to.

To be eligible for the Canada Greener Homes Initiative, homeowners in Saskatoon must meet the following criteria:

  • Own a detached, semi-detached, row house, or mobile home.
  • Use the home as their primary residence.
  • Undergo an energy assessment both before and after completing energy upgrade renovations.
  • Successfully complete at least one eligible energy upgrade renovation.
  • Provide copies of all receipts for energy upgrades.
  • Have a pre-retrofit evaluation conducted after December 1, 2020.

Here's how the program works:

  1. Schedule a pre-retrofit evaluation before beginning any eligible upgrades.
  2. Complete the energy-efficient upgrades of your choice.
  3. Schedule a post-retrofit evaluation to measure the improvements.
  4. Get a refund of $600 towards the evaluation costs, included in the maximum program benefit of $5,600.
  5. Upload your receipts for energy upgrades to the Greener Homes Portal.
  6. Grant cheques will be mailed to homeowners 90-120 days after submitting their records to the Greener Homes Portal.

But that's not all. Homeowners in Saskatoon can enjoy a wide range of upgrade measures, including:

  • Attic Insulation to achieve various R-values, with corresponding grant amounts.
  • Exterior Wall Insulation to enhance insulation value.
  • Basement/Foundation Insulation with different grant amounts based on the level of improvement.
  • Crawlspace Insulation for better energy efficiency.
  • Solar Panels for those looking to invest in clean, renewable energy.

Please note that the amount of grants is pro-rated based on the extent of upgrades, with a minimum of 20% required to qualify. Selected windows and doors must be on NRCan's approved models list. For additional qualifying information and options, please visit our website.

With the Canada Greener Homes Initiative, homeowners in Saskatoon have the opportunity to make their homes more energy-efficient, reduce their environmental impact, and save money in the process. We encourage all eligible residents to take advantage of this remarkable program and join us in creating a greener and more sustainable future for our beautiful province.
